MILLBURY, OH — Nathan Cooper, a longtime Lake Local Schools district resident, parent, and community volunteer, has officially announced his candidacy for the Lake Local Schools Board of Education in the November 4, 2025 election.
Cooper, who lives in Millbury with his wife — a Lake Middle School teacher — and two stepdaughters who attend Lake Elementary, says his family is his greatest motivation for seeking a seat on the Board.
“Running for the Board of Education is something I have considered for several years,” Cooper said. “I believe I have the time, vision, and energy to devote myself to this community in this role over the next four years. I want to represent the voices of parents, teachers, and community members while working to ensure our schools remain strong for generations to come.”
The son of a pastor and a public school teacher, Cooper grew up in suburban Columbus and is a proud product of Ohio’s public schools. For the past decade, he has worked as a 9-1-1 telecommunicator and currently serves as a dispatcher for the Perrysburg Township Police and Fire Departments. In addition to his career in public safety, Cooper is actively involved in the Lake school community as Treasurer of the Lake Elementary PTO, where he helps organize events such as Cookies & Canvas nights, book fairs, and Teacher Appreciation Week.
Cooper’s campaign is built around a vision for strong, well-rounded schools that prepare students for success in the future while remaining financially responsible today. His priorities include:
Teaching for Today, Training for Tomorrow – Equipping Lake graduates with the skills needed for college, military service, or in-demand jobs in fields like technology, AI, and cybersecurity.
Smart Spending and Saving for Success – Ensuring fiscal responsibility with taxpayer dollars to secure long-term financial stability.
Academic Excellence, Athletic Excitement, Artistic Expression – Promoting a balanced student experience that values academics, athletics, and the arts.
Mental Health Matters – Supporting the mental health needs of both students and staff by reducing stigma and providing resources.
A Safe School is a Successful School – Strengthening school safety through training, technology, and partnerships with local police and fire.
Respect Builds Results – Leading with integrity, collaboration, and respect to build trust and achieve the best results for the district.
“Strong schools are the cornerstone of a strong community,” Cooper added. “I am committed to ensuring that Lake Local Schools continue to be a source of pride and opportunity for every student, family, and resident in our district.”
